Job Description

Purpose

Implement and coordinate comprehensive college counseling programs for upper school students and parents, covering career exploration, college applications, and scholarship processes. Provide administrative support to the College Counseling office. This is a 12 month position.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as primary counselor for assigned freshmen through seniors, including writing school recommendations and conducting individual counseling sessions
  • Provide personalized guidance matching students to appropriate academic and social environments
  • Counsel students and parents through course selection, college search, application processes, and scholarship opportunities
  • Educate families on financial aid procedures and merit-based scholarship identification
  • Coordinate college counseling seminars, evening programs, mini-fairs, forums, and guest speakers
  • Identify and nominate students for academic awards and summer programs
  • Organize standardized testing materials and serve as exam proctor when needed
  • Stay current with college admission trends through journals, online resources, and direct communication with admissions offices
  • Visit college campuses and attend admission representative meetings locally and regionally
  • Maintain relationships with admissions officers to promote student placements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of three years college counseling experience in high school or college. 
  • Experience in college admissions highly preferred; college counseling preferred
  • High moral character and professional demeanor
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
  • Ability to serve as positive role model in conduct, speech, and appearance
