Associate Director of College Counseling

Full time Counseling

Job Description

Inspire Transformative Journeys. Champion Student Voice. Join Walker.

At The Walker School, relationships are the foundation of everything we do. As metro Atlanta’s top Pre-K(3) through Grade 12 independent school, we prepare students to lead with curiosity, honor, dignity, and kindness—and we’re committed to a community where every student is seen, known, and valued.

We’re looking for an experienced and student-focused Associate Director of College Counseling to join our Upper School team. In this role, you’ll do more than guide students through the college admissions process—you’ll walk beside them as they imagine their futures, define their goals, and grow in confidence.

If you're passionate about transformative learning, thrive in a collaborative environment, and believe in the infinite worth and dignity of every individual, we invite you to apply.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our College Counseling team, you’ll:

  • Advise and support a caseload of approximately 30–35 students per grade through every stage of the college search and application process

  • Provide academic advising that aligns with students' personal goals and strengths

  • Conduct one-on-one, family, small group, and full-class sessions with empathy and clarity

  • Communicate effectively with students and families on topics including college admissions, testing, scholarships, summer opportunities, and financial aid

  • Support students as they develop application materials—ensuring authenticity and excellence

  • Partner with the Director of College Counseling to design innovative programming and host impactful events

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with college admission officers across a diverse range of institutions

  • Stay current on trends and policies in higher education by participating in local, regional, and national conferences

  • Engage fully in the life of the school through departmental and faculty meetings, professional learning, and student programming

  • Model ethical behavior, professionalism, and positivity every day

  • Step in to support additional duties as needed to enrich the Walker experience for all

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree strongly preferred

  • 4–6 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions

  • Deep understanding of the college admissions landscape and a passion for guiding students through it

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with a wide range of audiences

  • A collaborative spirit, with comfort in both team environments and independent work

  • A deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and a growth mindset for building your own cultural competency

  • Tech-savvy, with a desire to stay informed of emerging tools and platforms

  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and the ability to meet important deadlines while juggling multiple projects

  • Enthusiasm for working in a vibrant school setting and the flexibility to attend some events during evenings or weekends

Why Walker?

At Walker, we are united by a powerful mission: to inspire transformative learning through meaningful relationships, academic excellence, and unique opportunities. We prepare students to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world, and we invest in the professional growth of the educators who make that possible.

You’ll find a community that values curiosity, fosters belonging, and encourages innovation—because we believe that when students and teachers are fully seen and supported, extraordinary things happen.
