Job Description

St. Timothy’ School, an Episcopal school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 565 students in grades Pre-K to 8, is seeking a School Nurse to begin work in August 2025.  

The School Nurse position may be filled by one full-time nurse or shared between two part-time nurses Therefore, well-qualified full-time or part-time candidates are invited to apply.

This is primarily a 10-month position from early August to early June each year, with some additional summer planning work required.

Responsibilities

The School Nurse will administer the school health room and support student and community health needs.  This includes:

  • Assisting students, employees, and visitors who become ill or injured at school.

  • Dispensing approved/prescribed medications and supervising treatment regimens.

  • Responding to on-campus medical emergencies, providing emergency first aid, and liaising with first responders and medical care workers when necessary.

  • Ordering and maintaining all required medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment for the health room, school campus, and designated school programs and activities.

  • Maintaining all health records.

  • Working with doctors, families, and school administrators to develop students’ return-to-school plans, medical exemptions, and medical accommodation protocols.

  • Coordinating and communicating appropriate student medical information with administrators, teachers, and staff members relating to circumstances that might affect a student’s school performance or safety.

  • Coordinating and/or providing training for first aid, CPR, using an AED, administering an EpiPen, as well as other health-related professional development for school employees.

  • Providing student and parent education on health-related topics.

  • Serving as the chief point-of-contact between the school and local, state, and national health agencies.  This includes liaising with the Wake County Department of Health and compiling/supplying annual required immunization data to the NC Immunization Branch of the Division of Public Health.

  • Remaining well-informed and up-to-date on contemporary health trends, legal requirements, and best practices in the field in order to regularly update all school health policies and related health forms.

Furthermore, the School Nurse will:

  • Be a registered nurse who is currently licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina

  • Have a minimum of a B.S. in Nursing

  • Possess the computer skills necessary for maintaining health records, utilizing the school’s student information database, and managing a significant volume of daily email communications in a timely manner.

  • Meet all physical requirements of the position, including providing physical support for ill or injured students and adults, extensive daily movement to and from classrooms in multiple buildings throughout our six-acre campus, and cleaning/sanitizing floors and surfaces, as needed.

It is strongly preferred that candidates will:

  • Have prior experience in a school or pediatric setting, working with children as patients.
