Job Summary

The classroom teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program in an independent K-12 school environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.  Teachers within grade and/or subject levels work as a team under the supervision of the Division Head and are full-time exempt employees.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The teacher will:

  • actively support the mission of The Fletcher School in the execution of his/her role and responsibilities.
  • plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are structured, multi-sensory and targeted to individual learning styles in order to facilitate active learning and assist students in achieving their potential.
  • ensure that curriculum, lesson plans, and evaluations are following established school procedures and pedagogy.
  • collaborate with grade-level team to achieve optimum outcome for each student.
  • teach up to six course sections or the equivalent in Science.
  • instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the disciplinary systems of the School.
  • provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to students on their work.
  • monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • participate in grade-level, school, and parent meetings.
  • communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • prepare the classroom for class activities.
  • provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • foster a well-structured and engaging learning environment by utilizing effective teaching strategies, clear communication, and thoughtful classroom management techniques.

Other Duties

The teacher will:

  • demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails.
  • participate in Professional Learning Program, Professional Learning Communities, and other appropriate professional activities.
  • participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • be a positive team-player and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families.
  • perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in education or a related field (Sciences) from an accredited institution
  • 3 to 5 years teaching experience
  • Training or experience in Special Education or a related field desirable
  • Have attended or willingness to attend Orton-Gillingham Associate level course or above
  • Have or willingness to obtain Apple Teacher certification
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology

***Salary Range: $43,000-$72,000 (Salary is based on experience and education level, with additional stipends available for certain professional certifications.)***
