Summary Job Description
Covenant Day’s Restoration & Sustainability (R&S) program engages students in lessons and activities that foster restoration of broken aspects of nature and humanity and develops problem-solving skills to support sustainable environments and communities. As part of this program, Covenant Day School is seeking a middle school CREATE and maker space lead facilitator who will plan, instruct, and resource 6th, 7th, and 8th grade courses and the creative maker space for middle school students. The role includes planning, direct instruction, personal development in maker space disciplines, and oversight of middle school Maker Space. This role also seeks and facilitates activities in the Middle School that align with the expansion of R&S core value of serving purposely and practically throughout the middle school environment. As part of the Restoration and Sustainability program at CDS, this role may include some responsibilities that would align with cross-divisional engagements.
Reporting to the Director of Restoration and Sustainability with responsibilities to the middle school as assigned by the Middle School Principal. This is a full-time salaried (exempt) role serving during the approximate ten-month academic school year. The position will commence upon the contract's effective date in preparation for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Duties include:
- Selecting instructional resources based on class level and developmentally appropriate criteria, individual student needs, and Restoration and Sustainability programming needs.
- Use and instruct in various technology platforms to support classroom learning. (3D Printing, Vector Drawings, CAD drafting (TinkerCAD, Fusion 360), Code.org, Laser Cutting, CNC Machining, and various mechanical and industrial hand-tools).
- Developing and executing lesson plans.
- Preparing Maker Space and a list of materials for activities.
- Observing student progress and making instructional adjustments to activities as needed.
- Manage and provide day-to-day operational oversight of the makerspace.
- Give guidance to teachers regarding the guidelines for acceptable usage of the makerspace.
- Periodically meet with the director of Restoration and Sustainability and CDS Curriculum Director to assess program effectiveness and recommended changes to program content, policies, and procedures.
- Resource in conjunction with program direction a “technical resource” that would be open to students beyond CREATE classes as an asset to the middle school at large.
- Engage in personal development and training leading to familiarity and functional knowledge of trending technology platforms, and current developments in the areas of math, engineering, science, and technology to enhance Create courses.
- Train students on all equipment within the space and create training guidelines and standards of use for each piece of equipment.
- Maintain approved safety and security standards for all equipment and programs.
- Participate in faculty and department meetings, serve with assigned building responsibilities and partner well with middle school colleagues as part of the faculty team
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the noted technology platforms, an aptitude and interest toward continued learning, and analog and digital mechanical devices.
- VEX Robotics EXP platform and Project Lead the Way Automation and Robotics Gateway curriculum certification.
- Personal experience applying technical and mechanical principles through hands-on project completion.
- Background and education in either math, science, physics, art, technical disciplines, or engineering.
- Industry experience, applicable to middle school students.
Qualifications

- Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant technical training preferred; teaching experience preferred.
- An understanding of teaching with biblical worldview and integration.
- Ability to teach at all middle school levels.
- Positive attitude and a genuine love, respect, and patience for middle school students who are learning and applying knowledge in an ambiguous and dynamic environment that transcends the four walls of a classroom.
- Passion for learning, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff.
- Ability to represent the school well to others and our community.
- Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches.
- Computer skills as applicable for effective teaching.
- Able to lift/move up to forty pounds when needed.
- Teaching license beneficial.
