Durham Academy (DA) is accepting applications for a full-time Middle School Visual Arts Teacher to begin August 2025. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, although an advanced degree or other commensurate experience is preferred. Candidates should be able to teach visual arts to students in grades five through eight. Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with giving feedback in a competency-based system. Regardless of proficiency with a competency-based approach, candidates should be willing to learn about how to incorporate it into their practice. A passion for working with middle school students is a requisite. This position reports to the Middle School Director.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Teaching four sections of Middle School visual arts, including instructional design and curriculum development
Serving as a Middle School Advisor for 10-12 students
Ordering and managing art supplies
Maintaining student art displays throughout campus
Proper use of a kiln
Collaborate closely with other fine arts teachers
Carry out required supervisory duties
Participate in professional collaboration groups such as grade-level teams and task forces
