Job Description

Position Summary: The John Crosland School is seeking a Middle School EC Teacher who will provide a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored for students in grades 6 to 8 with diverse learning differences. The teacher will adapt instruction, assessments, and learning materials to meet individual needs, fostering a love for ELA, Math, Social Studies, or Science and encouraging critical thinking skills.

  • Curriculum Development - Design and implement a curriculum that is accessible and engaging for all students - Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.). 

  • Differentiated Instruction - Create lesson plans that include modifications and accommodations for students with learning differences. - Use assistive technology and other resources to enhance learning experiences. 

  • Student Engagement - Encourage active participation through hands-on experiments, group projects, and interactive discussions. - Foster a classroom environment that promotes confidence, curiosity, and collaboration. 

  • Assessment and Feedback - Implement various assessment methods to gauge student understanding and progress, including formative assessments, projects, and presentations. - Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth. 

  •  Collaboration - Work closely with Middle School staff, counselors, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's learning plan. 

  • Professional Development - Stay informed of best practices in teaching students with learning differences through ongoing professional development and collaboration with peers. - Engage in self-reflection and seek feedback to continuously improve teaching methods. 

  • Classroom Management - Establish and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment that supports all learners. - Implement strategies for managing behavior that respect individual needs and promote inclusivity

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Teaching certification in special education or experience preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of learning differences and effective teaching strategies. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position in a middle school setting. 

  • Requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students.

  • Physical demands refer to the level and duration of physical exertion generally required to perform critical tasks in support of critical job functions, for example - standing for extended periods of time, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs.
