UPPER SCHOOL: ENGLISH TEACHER
The Oakwood School seeks an energetic, creative Upper School English teacher for the 2025-2026 school year to begin August 15, 2025. Successful candidates will exhibit flexibility and adaptability with students. The ideal candidate will actively participate in the life of the school outside of the classroom and perform other non-teaching duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Oakwood’s curriculum and student needs.
Teach a variety of literature, including multi-genre literature, Ancient and Medieval World literature, and American literature to students in grades 8, 10, 11, and 12.
Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, student engagement, and academic achievement.
Utilize differentiated instruction and diverse teaching methodologies to support a range of learning styles.
Assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
Manage student behavior using effective classroom management strategies that align with Oakwood’s initiatives while promoting character development and community.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student growth and success.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
Take all responsible precautions to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students.
Maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in English, English education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Teaching experience preferred, with a strong understanding of best practices in English instruction for Upper School students.
A passion for working with Upper School students, fostering their academic and personal growth.
The ability to differentiate instruction and engage learners at all levels.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
A commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
