Job Description

Objective: To lead the facility, staff and faculty, events, activities, and arts educational programming of the Murray Arts Center at MPCS; to lead the PK-12 academic program in fine and performing arts at MPCS; to exemplify excellence in every aspect of the position to the Glory of God  
 
QUALIFICATIONS
The Director of Arts and the Murray Arts Center should possess:
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • An understanding of the Christ-focused approach to the arts and an ability to integrate faith      in all aspects of the academic program
  • Model Christian behavior in speech and actions
  • A belief in and understanding of the greater mission and vision of Mount Paran Christian School as an ecumenical covenant school
  • Graduate degree(s) in performing arts related areas preferred
  • A proven track record developing  thriving and culturally transformative arts programs
  • A high level of  creative energy and motivation
  • Exemplary executive functioning and organizational skills
  • Experience in leading arts programs in PK-12 schools or a university setting
  • Experience collaborating with admissions and marketing personnel to promote arts programs to the broader community
  • Excellent public relations and marketing skills
  • Successful teaching experience and success within his or her chosen field in the arts
  • Experience in managing departmental budgets
  • An understanding of  the importance of connecting MPCS arts programs to the broader arts community 
  • An established network in the greater arts community
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • An ability to influence prospective donors on strategic initiatives at MPCS
  • An understanding and appreciation for all areas within the arts
  • Active involvement in professional organizations
  • Collaborative team approach, relational style, and pastoral compassion for faculty, staff, and students involved in the arts
  • A professional style in working effectively with various constituency groups, including parents, donors, students, and colleagues
  • An acknowledgement and understanding of best practices in the field of arts programming and instruction
  • High expectations of self, students, staff, and faculty

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Arts and the Murray Arts Center will:
  • Report to the Associate Head of School
  • Participate on the Academic Council, Executive Council, and other school leadership committees as determined necessary by the Head of School
  • Chair the Arts Council
  • Supervise MCPS curricular and co-curricular fine and performing arts programming in PreK-12, collaborating with PK-12 academic division heads in the supervision and delivery of arts instruction
  • Supervise the Murray Arts Center and the daily business operations of the facility - including scheduling and rental of spaces, management of events (internal and external), staffing of events, and all other concerns and activities relating to use of the facility. 
  • Supervise the Murray Arts Academy, to include programming, facilities use, staffing, and strategic planning and implementation of community arts education initiatives
  • Manage the fiscal wellness of MPCS arts programs, to include budget management for the Murray Arts Center, the Murray Arts Academy, the PK-12 Fine and Performing Arts program, and other relevant arts programs and activities emanating from the facility requiring budgetary support
  • Supervise instructional, technical, non-instructional staff assigned to the fine and performing arts and the Murray Arts Center through clear guidance, collaboration, and accountability, to include full-, part-time, and adjunct (independent      contracting) staff
  • Collaborate with MPCS Director of Operations to ensure maintenance and repair of the facility is accomplished as a priority of the school
  • Organize meetings of the Murray Arts Center Foundation Board on behalf of the Head of School to provide strategic, programmatic, facilities, and fiscal reporting updates  of the Murray Arts Center
  • Cultivate donors for the facility and arts programs
  • Provide effective public relations for the facility and arts programs 
  • Comply with conditions as stated in employee contract and handbook
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
