Job Description

Covenant Day is seeking an Academic Resources Director who will lead the Academic Resources Department in support of the Covenant Day School mission of providing Christian families with an education marked by biblical worldview and academic excellence.  The team provides services to Covenant Day School students identified for specialized instructional needs and supplements and/or supports the classroom learning experiences of lower, middle, and high school students. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the position is a full-time, exempt (salaried) eleven-month faculty position that aligns with the academic school year.

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Direct and maintain the TK-12th grade Covenant Day Academic Resources Program, providing strategic guidance and vision to the team as well as school faculty and parents. Oversee and develop policies and standards within the Covenant Day academic resources program
  • Partner with division leadership and faculty in student assessments and needs identification. Provide consultation and guidance to parents as they make decisions about their students. Determine therapy assignments for AR staff.
  • Manage and direct the team of academic resources learning specialists, interventionists, and associate director(s), and coordinate service and classroom support assignments, providing direction and guidance to each staff member, and giving feedback and developmental coaching
  • Manage the lower school MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) process and guide/direct the team MTSS Coordinator
  • Partner with leadership in the lower, middle, and high school levels as well as departments such as the business office, marketing and communications, and human resources to administer the Academic Resources programming, budgeting and marketing needs at Covenant Day
  • Serve as a consultative resource to our guidance and counseling staff and partner with them on student needs assessments
  • Provide ongoing support to the Admissions Department for admissions reviews, testing support, etc. as requested
  • Provide occasional faculty and/or parent training on Academic Resources topics
  • Ensure appropriate administrative records are kept on academic resources students and monitor their progress in their assigned therapies
  • Communicate with parents regarding student needs and progress
  • Attend administrative and school leadership meetings as needed to provide strategic direction and updates 
  • Take advantage of professional development opportunities and keep up to date with developments in appropriate subject areas
  • Have an attitude of Christian service and model Christian principles and behavior to students and colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School or Head of School

 Qualifications

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life
  • Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship
  • Special education or education related bachelor’s degree. Master’s in related subject area preferred; classroom education experience preferred; prior school administration experience preferred
  • Specialized training in Orton-Gillingham, NILD, LindaMood -Bell, or Wilson Reading and experienced in therapy delivery
  • Able to read and interpret psychological-education testing
  • Able to be flexible according to the changing needs of students;  willingness to serve lower, middle, and high school students as needed
  • Positive attitude and a genuine love for and ability to connect with school-aged youth and parents
  • Passion for Christian education. Strong understanding of classroom effectiveness. Willingness to work collaboratively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff; technology skills appropriate for the position
  • Experienced in managing a team and department; demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches
  • Able to occasionally lift up to forty pounds as needed
