Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy Middle & Upper School focuses on the development of the whole child. Our physical education program currently serves students in Grades 5 - 9 and lays the foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle. We are seeking an individual who creates a vibrant, joy-filled, student-centered environment that supports the physical development of each student. This person should understand the unique needs of both male and female students as classes are separated by gender.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with fellow PE teaching colleagues to plan and implement curriculum for daily physical education instruction for students in 5th through 9th grade.
- Be well versed in health instruction and understand best practices in health education.
- Utilizes effective classroom management strategies and skills
- Effectively differentiate instruction to meet the various needs of students, including whole group, small group, and individualized instruction
- Create a sense of community and belonging among students where each individual student is celebrated for his or her identity and strengths
- Provide students with specific, actionable feedback and appropriate assessment
- Communicate with parents proactively, positively, and professionally to support the academic, social-emotional, and physical needs of students
- Actively engage in the school’s process of process growth and development
- Support our athletic department by coaching during at least two seasons
- Perform other duties to support the division and/or school as a whole
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in physical education, education or appropriate degree (advanced degree preferred)
- Experience in teaching physical education
- Athletic coaching experience preferred
