The Middle School Faculty are a collaborative and forward-thinking community of education professionals who are consistently looking for ways to create real-world, project-based experiences that help their students connect content in a relevant and impactful way. While they customize and personalize the learning for each course, this team is united in using an inquiry-based model and a mastery approach to teaching. The humanities team at Mount Vernon, uses an interdisciplinary approach to teach literature, history, and grammar concepts using projects, design thinking, expeditionary, and inquiry-based approaches.
This position has the opportunity for daily interaction with a cohort of Grade 8 students where they explore topics such as Civics, US History, Personal Finance, Global Relations, Conflict, and Freedom. This role is important because the G8 Humanities program prepares students to be successful in the Upper School Grade 9 Humanities Program. This bridge helps students bolster literacies, skills, and attributes that will be essential for not only success in Upper School/High School but also prepares students with the written and verbal skills to be strong communicators as many will apply for the Grade 9-12 Mount Vernon Innovation Diploma program. Strong candidates will have experience using inquiry-based teaching pedagogies, have a strong belief in competency-based education, and be passionate about student success.
