Darlington’s Director of Athletics is responsible for contributing to and advancing the culture and strategic vision of Darlington athletics. Beyond management of the Upper School athletic programs, the Director of Athletics must see themselves as the leader of all athletic programs at Darlington, beginning with physical education class and after-school activities in the Pre-K to 8 Division and extending to our strength and conditioning programs and 23 varsity teams in the Upper School.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Athletics is a key member of the school’s leadership team. The ideal candidate will be a strong oral and written communicator, who demonstrates a commitment to honor and integrity, passion for athletics, courageous decision-making, and a desire for a student-centered experience. The Director of Athletics fosters a positive and inclusive athletic community, building strong relationships with students, coaches, parents, and faculty. They skillfully navigate diverse viewpoints and disagreements, making difficult decisions with transparency and empathy, ensuring all stakeholders feel heard and supported. The Director of Athletics must be able to meet the physical demands of the job and thrive in a highly stressful work environment.
The starting date for this position is July 2025. A master’s degree and experience in athletics administration is preferred.
