JOB SUMMARY:

The Lower School Grade Level teacher brings a highly collaborative approach to working with classrooms across a grade level. We are seeking a candidate who is qualified as a teacher and is at the beginning stages of their teaching career. A successful grade level teacher is committed to developing their educational practice by working  with homeroom teachers to support the plans and curriculum of the overall grade level and the specific homeroom teachers. Communication and partnership are central to interactions with our students and faculty. The Grade Level teacher embodies our mission and core values in all they do and say in support of empowering every student to be compassionate global citizens. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:

  • Displays a genuine disposition for engaging children in learning and promoting curiosity.

  • Serves as an integral part of the learning community and viewed as an ongoing learner who is fully engaged in professional growth.

  • Demonstrates a desire for feedback and a dedication to excellence.

  • Collaborates with homeroom teachers to support classroom instruction and lesson plans

  • Displays a genuine disposition for engaging children’s curiosity in learning that honors the whole child and their developmental stages.

  • Approaches student interactions in developmentally-appropriate ways that support the curriculum and fostering of social skills and values.

  • Understands the needs of diverse constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience equitably to all students.

  • Collaborates with homeroom teachers about student supervision.

  • Collaborates with the homeroom teachers to create a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing the practices of Responsive Classroom.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, including accountable conversation that promotes the school’s core values.

  • Performs supervisory duties as assigned.

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative, trusting, and effective working relationships with others.

  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology for teaching and learning.

  • Serves as a substitute and take the lead in the classroom when a homeroom teacher is absent.

  • Engages in continual professional growth and to be a member of a dynamic community of learners.

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for Miami Country Day School and its mission.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • BA or BS in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education

  • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish objectives of the school program.

  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

  • Must be able to use computer for communication and instruction.

  • Attend meetings, inservice or trainings required of this position that may/may not be during hours.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, timelines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds lbs.

  • Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
