Job Description

The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a middle school science teacher to begin in August 2024. Interested applicants should have experience teaching middle school science (Earth, Life, and Physical). Applicants should be comfortable with project-based learning and hands-on science experiences, including dissection. Strong collaboration skills within and among departments will be expected.

Reports to: Middle School Division Head

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops curriculum materials including course outlines, syllabi, and other instructional material
  • Carries out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned classes
  • Conducts before and after school tutorials as scheduled
  • Participates in regularly scheduled department, faculty, team, interdisciplinary, and grade-level meetings
  • Ensures that students adhere to The Lovett School behavioral guidelines
  • Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a strong background in biological and/or physical science required, master’s degree or higher preferred
  • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Employment of a variety of instructional techniques, including the meaningful use of technology, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset
  • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
  • Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles and across a range of abilities
