The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School Homeroom Teacher to begin in August 2024. Interested applicants should be enthusiastic educators with a passion for teaching young children. Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Orton Gillingham, Understanding by Design, and Responsive Classroom will be preferred, as will a nuanced understanding of and interest in equity and inclusion. A master’s degree in Elementary Education is preferred, but not required.

Reports to: Head of Lower School

Position Summary: The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School Homeroom Teacher to begin in August 2024. Interested applicants should be enthusiastic educators with a passion for teaching young children. Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Orton Gillingham, Understanding by Design, and Responsive Classroom will be preferred, as will a nuanced understanding of and interest in equity and inclusion. A master’s degree in Elementary Education is preferred, but not required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Embrace and impart Lovett’s Core Values.
  • Cultivate a classroom culture that facilitates student voice, compassion for others, and a whole-child approach.
  • Develop curriculum and assessments and differentiate instruction.
  • Provide effective feedback for students and continually monitor student progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department and/or grade level on curriculum development.
  • Foster a positive parent-school partnership with Lovett families.
  • Communicate student progress to families through report cards, parent-teacher conferences, Seesaw, and other touchpoints as needed. 
  • Engage in faculty and team meetings and ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
  • Mentor and support co-teacher in his/her professional growth.
  • Attend weekly chapel, Open House, faculty in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, designated school-sponsored events, and professional development days.
  • Fulfill other Lower School duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Knowledge of current best practices in education and a genuine enthusiasm for children
  • Willingness to be self-reflective, learn, and grow as a professional and individual 
  • Sense of joy and a positive approach to challenging situations
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles across a range of abilities
  • Ability to collaboratively engage with students, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Willingness to contribute to the school community beyond the classroom
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Familiarity with technology, including SMARTboard and Google Suite
  • Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence  
  • Ethical behavior, professionalism, and reliable attendance
  • Three years of classroom experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
