Job Description

Head of Upper School
The head of the upper school bears primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of the upper school as it pertains to faculty, staff, and students. The head of the upper school must cultivate and maintain relationships with parents and is instrumental in building community and setting a positive and collegial tone throughout the upper school. The head of the upper school is a member of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the head of school. Currently, the dean of students, class deans, director of testing and accommodations, and the school counselor report to the head of the upper school. The head of the upper school works closely with the academic counsel on the implementation of curricular matters. Weekly assemblies, calendar, oversight of the athletic schedule, co-curricular activities, clubs and other student organizations fall under the purview of the head of the upper school. The head of the upper school sits on the admission committee and is responsible for the annual budget of the upper school as it pertains to student programming.
The head of the upper school must be an outstanding communicator and demonstrate exceptional writing and speaking skills. The ideal candidate will have a masters or higher degree and a minimum of five years of independent school teaching and administrative experience.

Essential Duties Responsibilities
Direct the Upper School in accordance with the philosophy and goals of Ransom Everglades School.
Serve as a member of the leadership team.
Establish and maintain an atmosphere which fosters learning and social well-being.
Establish and maintain a harmonious and productive relationship among students, faculty and parents.
Ensure clear and open communication between parents and the School.
Work with the Associate Head of School to design and implement the Upper School curriculum and programs, being aware of implications and connections to the Middle School.
Establish a working relationship with the Middle School.
Work with the Associate head of School to maintain high academic standards and quality classroom teaching through faculty evaluation and professional development.
Plan for and allocate the Upper School budget in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer.
Keep current with research about secondary education by attending conferences and memberships in professional organizations.
Participate in hiring and supervision of faculty, administrators, and staff.
Develop and implement policies and make decisions.
Participate in Admission decisions.
Has responsibility /leadership in: US Programs – academic, extra-curricular, athletic, advising, counseling, college counseling.
Communicate effectively with Ransom Everglades community – parents, Board, faculty, students.

Master's degree in Education or a related field
Previous experience in a leadership role within an educational institution.
Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the classroom.
