Upper School English Teacher
Job Description
We are searching for a reliable, trustworthy Upper School English teacher to join our college preparatory staff. The Upper School English teacher’s responsibilities include planning lessons and developing curricula, reading and understanding all prescribed texts, offering academic support to students, and ensuring a safe learning environment. One should also be able to juggle multiple deadlines, liaise with professionals, and respond well to criticism.
● Guide students in improving reading comprehension and writing skills as they apply to various modes of writing, formal and informal.
● Develop lesson plans that develop into units of study and that comply with the expectations of the English Department.
● Provide assessments for daily, unit, and semester work. Assessments should reflect student learning as it complies with the expectations of the English Department.
● Utilize technology, textbook materials, supplemental materials, audio and visual aids, etc.
● Develop lesson and unit plans, course objectives, and an outline of study that follows curriculum guidelines and USJ’s educational philosophy and mission statement.
● Teach students using a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, lecture and demonstration, audiovisual aids, and other creative supplemental methods.
● Provide individual help to students that will encourage continuous and satisfactory progress.
● Work proactively with students and parents to encourage student involvement that is working toward success.
● Assess students’ needs and provide support or extra resources as needed.
● Involve in school activities as well as high-school community activities.
● Confer with the director, other teachers, counselor, and supervisors regularly.
● Participate in professional development activities such as in-service, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
● Maintain a professional working relationship with students, parents, and fellow teachers.
Upper School English Teacher Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, or Education.
● Master’s degree preferred.
● Relevant certification or license.
● Completed apprenticeship or teaching experience.
● Compassion, understanding, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● The ability to multitask in a high-stress environment.
● Willingness to work long hours.
● Resilience and the ability to work with others.
