Art Teacher

Grade levels: Early Childhood – 8th Grade
Departments: Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School
Location: Art room with kiln
Immediate supervisors: Head of Lower School and Head of Middle School
Anticipated Start: Fall 2023

Art Teacher’s Primary Purpose: To design and implement creative and engaging art lessons that allow each student the opportunity to reach their God-given potential in a way that supports the mission and values of the school.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Specialization and passion for teaching art including pottery, mixed media, drawing, painting, chalk drawing and art history

  • Staying current with teaching strategies, techniques, and educational technology 

  • Entering student artwork into local art contests and creation and execution of school wide art projects 

  • Plan and implement school wide spring art show 

  • Support the design and creation of sets for middle school theater production

  • Consistent and clear parent and student communication

  • Working collaboratively with administrators and colleagues  

  • Participation on school committees 

  • Attendance and participation in divisional meetings 

  • Student arrival and/or dismissal duties 

  • Adherence to Faculty Guidelines 

  • Participating in professional development 

  • Supervision of students 

  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative independent Christian school environment

  • Implementation of Woodland’s Educational Philosophy 

  • Support the school’s Statement of Faith

Experience & Physical Requirements: 

  • Teaching experience (minimum of three years preferred but not required) 

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s degree preferred in related field 

  • Valid teacher licensure preferred 

  • Proficient in advanced technology skills 

  • Ability to regularly sit, turn, bend, reach, walk, talk, hear, and visually identify visitors 

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
