This science position will cover General 4th Grade Science Standards following the NGSS standards, including sections of Earth, Physical, and Life Science, but not limited to these areas of focus. The science teacher will also serve as a member of the science teaching team, ensuring continuity throughout the department. This position will also involve teaching daily innovation lessons, incorporating a STEAM-based approach, to students in grades 6-8. Additional duties typically include advising, coaching, sponsoring a club or activity, and participating in faculty meetings and professional development.
Candidates should be flexible and stay current with educational research in order to be prepared to teach the course content effectively. A strong understanding of utilizing technology as a teaching tool in our one-to-one computing environment is imperative.
Teachers should include a variety of teaching strategies in and out of the classroom in order to be effective for all types of learners. This may include but is not limited to: hands-on learning; project-based learning; place-based learning; collaborative activities; content reading; discussion; and technology.
Flexibility, creativity, a sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to being a strong team member are all critically important.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a concentration in science or a related field is a prerequisite for this position, and a Master’s Degree is preferred. A minimum of four years teaching experience at the upper elementary or middle school level is preferred, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with integrating technology into the curriculum, and a passion for working with children.
