Purpose
The Counselor provides information, support, and guidance to students, parents, and teachers in an effort to promote emotional health and well-being as well as academic success for our students. Our approach is student-centered, focusing on the development of coping skills, responsible behavior, and proactive interactions. The Counselor works in continuous collaboration with the Division Head and Assistant Division Head.Â
Essential Job FunctionsÂ
Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Faculty and Staff Employee Handbook
Collaborates with the Head and Assistant Head of Division to address divisional and individual student issuesÂ
Has a thorough understanding of childhood development with strong clinical skills as well as an understanding of the needs of studentsÂ
Offers support and guidance to both teachers and parents through conferencing, student observations, individual behavior modification plans, and recommendationsÂ
Counsels both individuals and student groups on a variety of topics including but not limited to maintaining friendships, recognizing positive and negative behaviors and how to react appropriately, coping with stressÂ
Monitors student overall wellness and/or achievement; work with teachers to support students
Meets with parents as needed to foster a collaborative approach to student success
Supports students and the School with crisis interventionÂ
Researches, offers, and leads programming for parents and/or faculty, as requested by the Division HeadÂ
Maintains and coordinates standardized testing schedules and students’ test results
Creates encouraging and celebratory messages for students on divisional morning shows
Co-plans monthly Community Building AssembliesÂ
Assists with the Character Education ProgramÂ
Assists as needed with Admissions testingÂ
Collaborates with the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Committee; observe students in and out of classroom environments, assist with recommendations for classroom teachers and parents and coordinate the implementation of ADA accommodations within the DivisionÂ
Serves as a member of the K-12 Counseling Department; work to facilitate cross-campus programming for all divisions
Assists with requests for records made by students transferring from Pine Crest SchoolÂ
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee
