For over 65 years the school has functioned as a village of play-based, hands-on, integrated learning for students 18 months of age through fifth grade, now serving over 400 children. Preschool lead teachers must have a Bachelor's (preferred) or Associate's (minimum) degree in Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent degree or certification, as defined by the NAEYC accreditation standard. In addition, preschool teachers must have appropriate prior experience as an early childhood educator, preferably in a NAEYC accredited school.

The campus is comprised of 18 wooded acres, 18 classrooms, the Arts and Athletic Center, Media Center and extensive natural play areas, including a new elementary playscape. Outdoor learning, including exploration through field trips, is integral to the curriculum. Raleigh is located in the southeastern corner of the Research Triangle, a prospering area with three leading research universities, many high-tech companies and an impressive array of museums and cultural activities.
