FLSA Status: salaried, non-exempt, part-time (30 hours weekly), ten-month
PURPOSE/GOALS: To assist the School in supporting its mission–to build a solid educational foundation for students with dyslexia and develop their rich potentia–by developing and overseeing, in collaboration with teachers and administration, a library program that supports efforts to teach reading, to promote love of reading, and to develop our students’ ability to use effectively and knowledgeably print and online resources.
Support library curricula appropriate to each grade level that includes reading activities, orientation and instruction in use of the library, and access, evaluation, and use of appropriate online resources.
Promote literature, reading, and inquiry through a variety of activities and in collaboration with teachers and administration, including book fairs, author visits, promotion of special topics (e.g. women’s history), and other activities.
Help develop and maintain a balanced and up-to-date collection of books and online resources that meet the diverse needs of our student body by analyzing curriculum objectives, ensuring media is in alignment with policies.
Assist in the management of the day-to day operations of the library, including circulation, shelving, and cataloging of books and other materials. This responsibility may include working with parent volunteers.
Help promote the Library/Media Center and its resources as a hub for student and faculty collaboration around ideas, research, and inquiry.
Support and promote media policies and procedures, including but not limited to collection development policy and copyright law.
Help maintain an efficient automation system for all books and periodicals and cataloged media.
Maintain a positive, professional work environment within the Media Center.
Help promote a dynamic summer reading program ensuring it reflects traditional choices as well as current student interests.
Observe and support best practices in library science, dyslexia research, and educational technology, and help support professional development opportunities for teachers and staff in these areas.
Maintain memberships in professional organizations such as GISL, AATE, GLMA, etc; attend local workshops and conferences; maintain membership in media listservs.
Attend school required meetings such as faculty/staff meetings and required Professional Development days.
Other duties as assigned by the Librarian or Principal.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in School Library Media or Library and Information Science or as an add-on to another major.
Coursework or training in Special Education preferred, particularly in the area of language-based learning disabilities.
Efficient and professional communication skills.
Ability to apply professional judgment.
Ability to prioritize concerns.

We are seeking a motivated and enterprising librarian/media specialist to join our team for a one- to two-year fellowship. The ideal candidate will have a background in Library and Information Science and an understanding and/or interest in dyslexia and its impact on learning. The candidate should be able to:
work independently and/or with teams.
analyze difficult and complex issues and to make recommendations for proper actions.
conduct research and to prepare analyses.
communicate orally and in writing effectively and clearly.
apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in both written and oral form.
establish appropriate priorities.
Must demonstrate competency with basic word processing, spreadsheet, database, and Internet functions. Ability to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb ladders, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach above shoulder level. Available to work full-time, flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and special events.
