In consultation with colleagues in the Counseling department and other members of the Early Learning Level team of teachers, the Early Learning Counselor is responsible for providing support services for students, parents, and teachers, collaborating with the principal and supporting classes through developmentally appropriate SEL (social-emotional learning) lessons.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach regular social-emotional learning classes to students in every grade level in Early Learning (PreK3 through Grade 4)
- Demonstrate an attitude of flexibility
- Provide direct support for individual students, groups, or classrooms
- Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
- Reflect on instructional practices to meet individual professional development goals
- Create adult and student education opportunities in the counseling field
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with other outside professionals
- Maintaining communication with clinicians actively working with Early Learning students
- Actively participate in professional development, grade level, and department meetings
- Manage the class and ensure engagement and discipline
- Communicate with parents or other interested parties
- Recommend referrals and offer brief counseling with students and families
- Serve on the Early Learning Admissions Team
- Provide advice and support around student progress reporting
- Help foster a positive school culture by overseeing celebrations, good news and well-being efforts in support of EL community (birthdays, illness, new babies, etc.)
- Perform other related duties as directed by principal or assistant principal

- BA/BS and MA/MS/MSW required
Experience:Â Â
- Experience working with Preschool and Elementary age students
- Ability to collaborate with adults with a wide range of skill levels
- Demonstrated creativity in design of classes
