Position Summary:

Woodward Academy has an opening for the Director of the Transition Learning Support Program. The Director manages and supervises the Transition Learning Support Program on Main Campus and Woodward North through a series of administrative and leadership functions to include appropriate instructional practices, curriculum development, teacher and parent training, Program structure, admissions, and marketing.  This position plays a vital role in Woodward’s support for students with learning differences and complex learning profiles Academy wide. Key responsibilities include:
 

Responsibilities:

  • Be experienced in assisting teachers implement a variety of instructional and learning strategies to teach mainstream content to bright students who have diagnosed learning disabilities 

  • Have a working knowledge of and experience choosing curriculum and materials for children with learning differences;

  • Understand national and state standards in grades 2 - 8;

  • Be competent in assisting teachers plan, develop, and monitor instructional lessons;

  • Provide clear communication with individual parents and parent groups in person and through written documents to include expectations and achievement benchmarks, individual student progress, Program structure and progress, and relevant topics in education;

  • Work with admissions to admit qualified students to the Program;

  • Be competent with various software programs and other assistive technology in order to make appropriate choices for the Program;

  • Be experienced in interpreting psychoeducational evaluation reports to provide summaries and determine accommodations;  

  • Evaluate Transition teacher performance;

  • Assist in marketing the Transition Program;

  • Represent Woodward Academy locally and nationally.

Position Requirements:

  • B.A. degree in Education

  • Master’s Degree in  Learning Disabilities, Reading Disabilities, Special Education, or Early Childhood Education (with heavy coursework in learning disabilities)

  • Previous teaching experience

  • Previous supervisory experience related to Learning Disabilities 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of instructional methods and best practices

  • Ability to work with students, teachers, and parents

The Director of the Transition Program is an exempt, salaried, 12-month, on-site position. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Competitive pay commensurate with years of experience and education. EOE
