Upper School Science and Research Teacher

McCallie seeks an upper school science instructor who desires to teach and to assist with directing independent, student research. The teacher will join a dozen other science faculty in McCallie’s state of the art, 40,000 square foot science building. The teacher should have a strong background in biology (especially on the molecular level) and chemistry. The teacher will also be involved in the school's extensive afternoon activity program supporting science research. There may be other duties as assigned.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

• a commitment to scientific research;
• expertise in molecular biology and chemistry;
• passion for and experience in helping students uncover real-world connections through scientific inquiry;
• willingness to work cooperatively within a strong department, on grade level teams, and along vertical course sequences;
• a deep understanding of, support for, and desire to live out McCallie’s mission for the good of McCallie boys - including both the school’s commitment to character development and the ideals of honor, truth, and duty and the school’s Christian foundation and Judeo-Christian heritage.

Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• a PhD or equivalent expertise involving scientific research;
• teaching experience. 

Additional qualifications or characteristics desired, but not required, include:

• involvement in various levels of student science research;
• familiarity with running a cell culture lab;
• familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards and 3-D science instruction;
• cross-cultural competencies or experiences; and 
• experience relevant to teaching, coaching another sport, or serving in another program area.

This is a ten month, full-time position. It is considered exempt and eligible for full benefits.
