The Head of Upper School works in partnership with the Academic Dean and Head of School in carrying out the school’s Mission, Vision and Academic programs. As a professional educator, the Head of Upper School understands and responds to the challenges presented by our diverse student population. The Head of Upper School provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders and works cooperatively with the Faculty, Counselors, Director of Student Life, Staff, Students, and Parents towards a positive school climate. The ideal candidate will display a willingness to promote the school’s core values and have experience within an independent school setting. He or she will demonstrate experience and expertise with faculty leadership, student supervision, program management, student guidance, and parent relationships. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience as well as a developmental sensitivity and understanding of adolescence.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsibility to make mission-driven decisions to enhance the Upper School.
Responsibility to oversee and guide the academic program of the Upper School..
Partner with the Director of Student Life and the teaching faculty to support students in feeling safe and valued within the school culture.
Responsibility to support day-to-day academics through monitoring instruction, good communication, personal availability, and classroom management guidance.
Responsibility in partnership with the Upper School Faculty leadership to oversee the daily good order and day-to-day management of the students.
Responsibility in partnership with the Academic Dean to identify professional development needs and growth opportunities.
Responsibility to oversee all student policies.
Responsibility to meet regularly with the Counseling Department to strategize about students as related to behavioral/academic difficulties and assist in developing programs to promote positive outcomes.
Responsibility in partnership with the Director of Facilities to ensure campus safety.
Responsibility to work collaboratively with the Academic Leadership at similar institutions to share best practices.
Responsibility for clear communication with the Administrative Leadership Team on all relevant matters.
Active engagement in the Pulaski Academy Upper School community.
Masters Degree in Education, administration, or related field preferred with 3+ years relevant school administrative experience.
Philosophical commitment to educational excellence and creative problem-solving.
Demonstrated experience in educational leadership.
High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy; the ability to handle families with grace is a must.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Must be able to discern among competing priorities with a positive, creative, solution-oriented temperament.
Working knowledge of educational software.
Availability to work after school hours and special events as needed.
