With a brand new state-of-the art campus under construction in the Pinewood neighborhood of Miami, JLA will begin accepting student applications for grades 6, 7, 9 and 10 in the Fall of 2022 for the academic year 2023-2024.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT ________________________________________________
The Engineering Department at JLA provides students with a sequence of deep and rich curricular core classes and electives. The goal of our program is to develop an appreciation of learning and ignite curiosity and critical thinking.
The Middle School offers the following honors elective classes:
Introduction to Robotics
The Upper School offers the following honors and advanced college-level classes:
Advanced Principles of Engineering
Teachers will lead teams in robotics leagues and engineering competitions. JLA’s multifaceted pedagogical approach uses a blend of Socratic discussions, design thinking, and guided experimentation transitioning to project-based learning in the advanced classes.
Full-time employment for faculty teaching positions will commence in August 2023. Responsibilities will include:
20 teaching periods per week (5 periods daily M-Th)
Advisory, media-literacy, research, service learning, or mentorship role as part of our unique Friday schedule.
Tutorial sessions twice weekly
Robust professional development throughout the year
Special on-boarding and leadership programming with students for the first 3 weeks of the school year
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the middle/upper school level, as well as a strong foundation in classroom pedagogy. He/She must have an undergraduate degree in a related field, though advanced degrees are preferred. Experience working with gifted and talented students is an asset.
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
The ability to connect with and inspire students.
The ability to take students through guided experimentations and open ended projects.
The ability and desire to work collaboratively on high functioning teams across departments.
Excellent people skills.
Mastery of Google Workspace for Education and an overall comfort with new technology.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
The desire to be a part of a learning community.
A strong work ethic.
An understanding of project and inquiry-based learning as well as design thinking.
