Description: Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, located in the heart of East Cobb, is seeking a full-time Lower School Counselor for students in Junior Kindergarten through 5th Grade. In addition to providing spiritual and emotional support through monthly classroom guidance lessons, the LS Counselor provides individual/group counseling sessions for students focused on personal concerns, conflict resolution, behavior management, and family issues. Positive, organized, collaborative, and self-directed, the ideal candidate is a team player who can effectively balance serving the needs of students, parents, and school personnel. The Lower School Counselor works closely with the counselors for the Middle School and Upper School, in addition to consulting regularly across divisions.  


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling (individual, group, family), consultation, and crisis management 

  • Create and deliver monthly guidance lessons developmentally appropriate for each grade addressing social, emotional, and spiritual topics

  • Collaborate with Lower School Head and Pathways Director in the identification of students who may be struggling with academic and/or social concerns, review of specialized evaluation, and the development of student intervention plans, giving special attention to social-emotional development

  • Conduct, in collaboration with the Lower School Head and Pathways Director, student observations as part of the student referral process.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and assist as necessary with student needs and/or parent-teacher conferences

  • Manage a weekly and monthly schedule that allows for both individual/group counseling appointments and classroom guidance lessons

  • Provide updated referral resources for private therapy and educational assessments as needed

  • Maintain ongoing contact with private clinicians working with MBCA students and families

  • Maintain accurate record keeping of student contact

  • Respect and uphold professional standards regarding the confidentiality of student, family, and school concerns

  • Engage in monthly counseling department meetings for cross-divisional continuity of care

  • Attend weekly chapel services, Lower School functions, and after-school staff meetings

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Education

  • Minimum of 2 years of school counseling experience with elementary-aged students 

  • LPC state license (or similar) preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Full agreement with MBCA’s Statement of Faith & Doctrinal Statements

  • Proficiency in Google suite applications
