About the School
Fayette Academy was founded in 1965 by a group of citizens who desired to establish an independent, Christian, college-preparatory school that would provide a balance of academic rigor, artistic and athletic achievement, and spiritual growth in a family and communal atmosphere. Enrollment began with 100 students and has grown over the next fifty years to reach approximately 575 students for the 2022-2023 school year. Located on the edge of the Memphis Metropolitan Area, Fayette Academy is the oldest and most established private/independent school in Fayette County, Tennessee.  The school is poised to grow both in excellence and in enrollment as the area prepares for the opening of Blue Oval City, Ford Motor Company’s largest battery and vehicle manufacturing campus in the world, less than fifteen miles away. Fayette Academy’s mission, “To inspire minds for learning and hearts for Christ”, continues to guide the school as it prepares for the next stages of its growth and development.

About the Position
The Head of School Search Committee and the Board of Trustees seek a leader who understands the necessity of adhering to Fayette Academy’s mission, who will communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, parents, and the Board, who will assist with Fayette Academy’s advancement and development, and who will engage daily in the life of the school and the community.

Responsibilities of the Position

General responsibilities:

o   Oversee the day-to-day operations, calendars, and schedules

o   Regularly conduct evaluations of all programs

o   Oversight of department directors and faculty

o   Provide a standard of excellence in communication with faculty, students, families, and the Board,      which includes timely, clear, and honest communication

o   Engage the public to promote Fayette Academy

Work with the Board on implementing Fayette Academy’s strategic plan and development plan:

o   Develop and implement annual goals consistent with the current Strategic Plan

o   Discuss with the Board plans and decisions that will have a significant impact on the school or that will change a longstanding method of operation

Participate in Fayette Academy’s financial management and development:

o   Consult with the Board Finance Committee to prepare annual budgets and develop a plan for increasing faculty salaries

o   Consult with the Board Development Committee and participate in cultivating donors and in annual fundraising

o   Set faculty salaries

o   Ensure a consistent and reliable recruitment and marketing plan

Faculty supervision:

o   Hire, supervise, and retain faculty

o   Encourage and plan professional development

o   Ensure that faculty receive regular written evaluations and recommendations and assistance in implementing the recommendations

o   Assist in choosing and implementing the curriculum

Student supervision:

o   Maintain Fayette Academy’s supportive and encouraging social environment

o   Assure a fair and consistent disciplinary process for department directors and faculty to administer

o   Conduct annual review of student handbook to determine the need for revisions or updates

Oversight of facilities:

o   Exercise oversight in maintenance of school property

o   Assist the Board in implementing necessary improvements and in planning for future growth and development of the grounds

After an initial review of the applicants, the Search Committee will interview candidates. Finalists will visit Fayette Academy for more comprehensive interviews with school representatives. A January appointment is anticipated with service as Head of School to begin July 1, 2023.
